Abstract:Diverse systems, such as atoms, photons, and macroscopic superconducting qubits, have shown their own advantages in building parts of a full quantum network. To combine the best features of those sub-systems that work exclusively either in microwave frequencies or optical frequencies, we proposed a quantum converter between microwave photons and optical photons by coupling an erbium doped crystal to both a microwave and optical cavity. Unit efficiency conversion can be achieved so long as the product of the optical and microwave cooperativity factors can be made large. An efficiency of photon number conversion of 10^-5 is demostrated in our experiment. Other applications of erbium doped crystals in a three-dimensional high-Q superconducting cavity at zero magnetic field are also discussed.

Profile:陈宇辉博士,2008年获中山大学理学学士;2013年获中科院物理研究所光学博士,主要研究方向为纳米光子学;2013年6月至今在新西兰奥塔哥大学从事博士后研究,主要研究方向为稀土元素掺杂的晶体材料在量子信息领域中的应用。主要工作成果包括:首次将全息技术引入到plasmionic结构的设计中;提出一种实现微波波段和光学波段光子之间的量子转换的方法。已在包括Light Sci. Appl., Phys. Rev. Lett., Nano Lett.和Small等杂志上发表研究论文18篇,被引500多次。
